Iran’s Minister of Transport and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh has called for broader political, economic and transport cooperation with Turkey, saying stronger bilateral links can serve both nations and support regional prosperity and stability.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the founding of the Republic of Turkey, Sadegh said national days honor nations’ history and identity and offer a chance to reflect on friendship and cooperation. Iran and Turkey, she noted, are long-standing neighbors with deep cultural, civilizational and human ties that have grown beyond geographical borders through historical interaction, social relations and rich cultural and religious heritage.
Sadegh described economic and trade cooperation as a key pillar, saying the two countries have diverse, complementary economic capacities and significant opportunities to expand ties. Their geographical positions, she added, give transport and communications cooperation special importance and can help connect regional economies and markets while strengthening fraternal relations.
Expanding economic and communications relations would secure mutual interests and contribute effectively to cooperation, welfare and sustainable development in the region, she said. The future of ties, she added, offers a valuable opportunity for both nations’ growth if backed by existing capacities and joint political will.
Referring to recent regional crises, Sadegh said they underscored the importance of peace, stability and shared responsibility. Security and development are interconnected, she said, and sustainable peace requires respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity, adherence to international law and priority for dialogue and peaceful solutions.
