The heads of customs of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, leading high-ranking customs delegations, met at the Bileh Savar border zero point and, by signing a memorandum of understanding to expand customs cooperation, agreed on new programs for the two countries' customs to develop and facilitate trade and transit.
According to IRNA from Iran's Customs, in this meeting, which was held with the presence of Foroud Asgari, Deputy Minister of Economy and Head of Iran's Customs Administration, and Shahin Baghirov, Head of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, obstacles and problems related to facilitating and developing trade and transit between the two countries were reviewed, and new programs were presented to remove the barriers ahead. These programs were agreed upon by both sides so that their implementation would further provide conditions for accelerating and facilitating trade and transit of goods between the two countries.
In this meeting, Foroud Asgari, Deputy Minister of Economy and Head of Iran's Customs Administration, in a report, described infrastructural problems as one of the important obstacles to the development and expansion of trade and transit exchanges between the two countries and emphasized that the completion of the bridges under construction at the exit borders related to Astara and Nakhchivan by the Republic of Azerbaijan will strengthen infrastructure and bring prosperity to trade and facilitate the passage of trucks.
Asgari said the president of our country has a special interest in developing trade exchanges with the Republic of Azerbaijan and has emphasized the development of economic relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan in various meetings.
The Head of Iran's Customs Administration said the main problem in developing trade between the two countries is the congestion at the borders and obstacles related to the smooth movement of trucks, and he emphasized the removal of this problem through interactions between the two countries.
According to this report, Shahin Baghirov, Head of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, also said in this meeting, pointing out that trade between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan is important and the view of both of us is positive. “We are interested in expanding cooperation and will make more efforts to develop trade and transit exchanges.”
Baghirov added that holding these meetings is very important and significant and will have a very good impact on resolving problems and removing obstacles.
He also welcomed the establishment of 24-hour online communication with the Head of Iran's Customs Administration for the immediate resolution of obstacles and problems.
At the end of this meeting, the heads of customs of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan signed a customs cooperation memorandum of understanding with the aim of facilitating and accelerating the process of customs clearance for commercial and transit goods.
