Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says that the new adjustments to the foreign exchange market and the subsidies system were aimed at helping the people’s livelihood, blaming the US and Israel for the riots which have broken out amid economic protests across Iran.
Pezeshkian spoke to the nation on state TV on Sunday. In response to a question about his administration’s changes to the foreign currencies market and the subsidies system, he said that the modifications were made in order to promote justice for all classes of people in the society.
According to Mehr News Agency, he said that the changes to the foreign currencies market were meant to convince the exporters to bring back the foreign currencies they have acquired to the country to help the government direct them toward the people’s needs.
He also said increasing the prices of some foodstuff are compensated by increasing the subsidies more than three times.
On the protests that followed the implementation of the new economic plan, the president said that the government distinguishes protests from riots.
He said that the traders and shopkeepers’ demands were heard by the government and changes were made to the policies in accordance with them.
Pezeshkian noted that the rioters that do acts of sabotage and destruction by abusing the protests are instigated by the US and Israel after their failure in the 12-day military aggression in June, calling on the Judiciary and security forces to deal firmly with them.
